Abstract |
We investigated the diffraction properties of slanted anisotropic gratings originating from a photoinduced molecular reorientation of polymer-dissolved liquid crystal composites doped with trace amounts of an azo-dye. The diffraction efficiencies of the holographic gratings were strongly dependent on the incident angle and polarization state of the probe beam. In order to explain the properties, a model of the periodical reorientation distribution is presented, considering the relationship between the polarization state of the pump beam and the molecular reorientation of the material. The optical properties of the structures were simulated by employing the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The simulation results showed good agreement with the observed diffraction properties. |
